This week, Paul and David return to the airwaves and talk about the new wave of question-and-answer sites. The soaring popularity of Quora, the new social network that has people scrambling to deliver the best answers to each other’s questions, has created new interest in a tried-and-true metaphor. You can use these answer sites to build your professional credibility and visibility in the smallest of niches, but how do you know where to place your chips with so many options from which to choose? The duo discuss this growing trend.

Yes, it is possible to get work by answering questions on LinkedIn, at least if you’re self-employed. In one case, an answer in the WordPress group led directly to a small gig fixing a particular problem; in another, the general quality of answers led to a phone call and then an RFP and now a fairly substantial contract. But I wouldn’t rely on it exclusively.
Great to hear from you, Sallie! You certainly walk the walk, judging by all of the great advice, I see (and hear on podcasts) from you. But as you point out, success is an unknown, so you shouldn’t rely solely on LinkedIn for career advancement.
